Farewell to the 20′s

Recently my sister was hesitantly approaching her 30th birthday. Putting an interesting and stressful 29th year behind her, there was cause for celebration. We decided to plan a “farewell to her roaring 20′s” party on the eve of her 30th birthday. Complete with pearls, boas and speakeasy theme; we toasted her entrance into a new decade in true-flapper style.

InvitationInvitations: The invitation featured the silhouette of a traditional flapper next to an exaggerated martini glass. Guests were asked to dress in twenties-inspired attire to keep with the theme.

DecorDecor: For the decor we stuck to a black, white and red color scheme. I purchased feather boas and strands of black pearls from a local party store. I also purchased inexpensive red plastic poker chips, which I hand painted with a “30″ and white stripes along the edges to customize them for the occasion. The table centerpieces featured pearl candles wrapped in bands of red and black satin ribbon. Black and red feathers paired perfectly with the custom poker chips to surround the candles on trays lined with green felt.

DessertsDessert: An array of dessert options were served to guests in over-sized martini glasses, including chocolate covered pretzels. We also ordered cost-friendly cupcakes with decadent red icing, topped with candy poker chips.

Attire: The guest of honor wore a black tiered tank found at Macy’s, topped with a pearl necklace. We found a great black feather for her hair to complete the look. As the host, I wore a rust satin top with 2 sets of multi-strand necklaces found at a great price at the Forever 21 jewelry store.
